Nothing beats the feeling of starting your career on a winning note. For Olympic-bound boxer in Eumir Marcial, winning his first bout as a professional fighter is something he'll remember for the rest of his boxing career.
Announcing his entry into the professional ranks, the 25-year old Marcial scored his first victory via a unanimous decision over 29-year old Andrew Whitfield on Wednesday (Thursday Manila time) in a four-round bout that was dominated by the Filipino. Marcial scored a W in each of three judges' cards, 40-36. Marcial landed 120 of the 310 punches he threw onto Whitfield while the latter only landed 46 punches. Incidentally, Marcial's first victory as a professional fighter came on the same day Senator Manny Pacquiao is celebrating his 42nd birthday, and that Marcial dedicated his win to the senator.
Marcial is fighting under Manny Pacquiao (MP) Promotions and is among the Filipino athletes who are looking to end the country's dry spell for an Olympic gold medal in Tokyo next year.
