Aside from sharing his plans for the local cycling arena, coach Roby Herber also gave his top three tips for cyclists both new and veteran.
You’d be impressed by coach Herber’s background: Level 3 coach at the UCI; Level 2 coach with distinction at USA Cycling where he was also a consultant for the Race-Ready Coaching Program; and on-board coach for the Taiwan National Cycling Team for the Race Across America competition.
So with that said, here are those top three tips.
1. “Ride consistently.”
This means, you should set a riding schedule. You can choose to ride in a particular time of the day daily or for a set period of time, either weekly or whenever your schedule allows for saddle time. Push the pedals, too, on your way to work, or find new cycling routes, other advice added.
All of these can help in keeping you motivated to ride consistently.
2. “Understand cycling and its benefits to one’s healthy living.”
Riding a bike can be a means of transport and bring you numerous health benefits. Cycling can improve your bowel health, increase brain power, prevent you from getting cancer and heart diseases, lower stress levels, improve sleep quality, and burn fat, among many other benefits. All of these, in turn, can increase your life expectancy, experts also added.
Bicycles also produce zero pollution, which leads to cleaner air quality.
3. “Enjoy!”
Aside from the mentioned health and mental benefits, cycling has given many people thrills, and if you’re the kind who likes things with wheels, then it’s even easier to enjoy cycling.
Some cycling enthusiasts said there are thrills that come with every ride—either the buzz you’d get when travelling fast on a descent, or the challenge of an off-road track.
Lastly, coach Herber has also said that “Filipino’s physiology…leans towards cycling.” Physiology is defined as a study of the human body’s nature.
So, what are you waiting for? We are practically made for cycling after all.
