Andrei and Paui: A Rare Couple in Sports Media

As Migs Bustos said, “They are one of the rare couples in sports media and since both of them are with CNN Philippines, we’ll just get a perspective of what’s love in (sports) media?”

Last Thursday’s episode of” Off the Record” with Migs Bustos featured two of the premiere sportscasters in Philippine media: “Mr. Sports Desk” Andrei Felix and, CNN Philippines’ sports reporter, Paui Versoza whom Bustos tagged as “The Rising Star”

While the trio talked about how the Andrei-Paui love story began from a casual question of Andrei “Do you want go out for lunch?” with Paui remembering “Andrei going to the bathroom for 30 minutes and returned with chocolates in hand” to now being in their second year together as a couple, Felix and Versoza shared how their relationship continues to develop despite their 12-year age gap.

More than the obvious difference in their age, one thing that stood for Felix is that “We get to constantly learn from each other” and that their being in the same career path serves as an advantage for both Andrei and Paui. For Versoza who also worked with Bustos in ABS CBN Sports, being with Andrei “has its advantages because we can talk about the same things. He knows what I’m talking about. And while we fight to when we see things differently. In the end, we try to learn from one another.” Felix added that the development of their relationship “wasn’t really quick. We spent time to get each other more” Versoza also said that working with Felix is “fun because sports is our common ground.”

Versoza also sees the age gap as an advantage because “he (Andrei) is more matured than other boys and that he has already more experience and that what I like about him is that he’s already at the path where he wants to settle down”

In the end, Andrei Felix shared that “She (Paui) is my motivation” for keeping the flame of love burning, and more importantly, it all goes to one thing Felix said: “Constant learning. She learns from me. I learn from her.”
