Being Married to a Basketball Player: The Adjustments During the Pandemic

As an old saying goes, "Behind a successful man is a woman"

Off the Record with Migs Bustos returned with another episode on Friday and the timing couldn't be better as Bustos talked to two wives of basketball players who are currently inside the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) bubble in Clark. While most fans are consistently watching what has been happening to their idols through social media but how is it really being a wife of a basketball player in a basketball-crazy country? More importantly, how is being married to a basketball player in the time of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic?

Joining the discussion are Anita Sumang, wife of Roi Sumang of the Blackwater Elite, and Mosh Cruz, wife of Jericho Cruz of the NLEX Road Warriors.

When the pandemic struck everyone by surprise, adjustments had to be made and wives of basketball players aren't exempted from that. As Anita Sumang said, "The changes that are brought about by COVID resulted in a 360 degrees spin (to our lives)" Sumang then shared "Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic started until now, I'm still working from home. So, we (she and Roi) get to bond more but of course, the arguments will not go away since we're together 24/7 and sometimes, even the little things are being argued about. On the positive side, we now feel our closeness more," For Mosh Cruz who is a stay-at-home wife, "There aren't many adjustments (needed) but if there's an adjustment, it's that we fight over Netflix" before bursting into laughter. 

Both wives also pointed out the importance of making sure that they spend quality with their husbands and wives alone and also, the importance of honesty as Anita Sumang said, "Wives are the backbone and we're the ones who needed to tell the truth" 

"It's a process (being married to a basketball player) that you're in," that's how Migs Bustos described it at the end, and considering the situation everyone else is facing, the process becomes more challenging especially for wives such as Anita and Mosh.
