Just a few days after acquiring Mac Belo in a trade that sent Baser Amer and Bryan Faundo to the Blackwater Bossing, Coach Norman Black of the Meralco Bolts revealed his plans ahead of the opening of the new Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) season in April.
One plan involved a major transition for Chris Newsome.
With Baser Amer gone, the Bolts will need a new starting point guard and that's what the 11-time PBA champion coach plans to make of Newsome who actually led the team in assists during the all-Filipino bubble conference in Clark last year.
"I think Newsome can be a good point guard since we always get the ball in his hands plus he's our leader in assists last conference," he said in a statement.
During the Clark bubble, Chris Newsome averaged 14 points and four assists per game while leading the Bolts to a semifinal finish where they hit another roadblock in the form of the eventual champions, the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings. Meanwhile, Amer normed nine points and three assists in his final conference with the team.
