Bonbon Custodio lifts UE over UST in Pinoyliga Cup

The University of the East scored their second straight win in the Pinoyliga Cup Inter-Alumni Division A (40 and Up Division) after beating the University of Santo Tomas, 76-66.


Bonbon Custodio had a waxing hot Pinoyliga debut as he led UE with a near triple-double of 24 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists. Ronald Tubid serves as a Robin for the second time in a row as he added 21 points and 8 rebounds to provide the primary help to their main man.  


Dynamic Trio of Custodio, Tubid, and Paul Artadi scored 19 of the 23 first-quarter points of UE while Rob Sanz scored 9 points of his own for UST to cut the deficit to 3, 23-20 at the end of the first quarter.


UE continued its fine offensive showing in the second quarter behind Custodio and Tubid en route to a 37-30 halftime lead. Artadi left the court in the second quarter with an apparent hamstring issue and did not go back to the game.


UST opened the third explosively as they were able to tie the score at 37-37 in the first two minutes of the third quarter behind Richard Yee’s two-point shot. But, Tubid and Custodio once again joined forces to give UE the lead anew after outscoring UST 20-11 in the final 8 minutes of the quarter.

The third quarter ended with UE leading 57-48.


UST tried to come back in the fourth quarter but again Custodio was there to put UST at bay.


Rob Sanz is the only double-digit scorer for the Tigers but he got ample help from Jake Agleron and Ingle Kaw who scored 9 points each while Romel David and Don Villamin added 8 points each.

UST played without their man in the middle Chris Cantonjos who was suspended for this game due to his unsportsmanlike conduct in their last game against San Beda.
