A square-off between a seasoned veteran and a rookie in the pro-league surfaces in the fourth episode of Smart E-lympics as multi-awarded and multi-titled LA Tenorio of the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings goes up against NCAA Season 95 MVP and the third overall pick of NLEX Road Warriors in the recent PBA draft Calvin Oftana.

The youngster Oftana is expressively excited to meet his idol Tenorio and have a chance to beat him in a game outside basketball.

“Kung sa basketball medyo dehado tayo pero kainan e, kainan yung labanan dito.” Calvin said before the game started. It was cheerfully answered by Tenorio, saying “wag niyo ko papaiyakin dito ha, baka dito niyo ko paiyakin.”

In contrast to the game of basketball where muscles in the upper body, leg, and core are the most contracted, the two protagonists tried to outwork each other using their facial muscles in a game called Face the Cookie challenge. Both players were given a minute to move the cookie from their forehead to their mouth using only their facial muscle and forces of gravity.

Both started flat as their cookies fell from their forehead while doing the task. Calvin, though slowly gets his rhythm going and inch closer to dumping it on his third and fourth attempt. On the other side, Tenorio’s attempts are still way too far on getting the cookie inside with the same number of tries that Calvin takes.

Finally on the fifth attempt, Calvin successfully moved the cookie to his mouth and followed it up immediately with another one just before the time expired. Meanwhile, LA really struggles to find form and fails to find the proper technique and game plan until the game is over.

The match ended in a score of 2-0 in favor of the younger Bedan.

Tenorio is full of praises to Oftana after the game, saying “Nakadalawa ka? Iba talaga ang mga bata ngayon eh no, madiskarte talaga”. Oftana immediately played down the praises and credited his sizable face for the win.

“Malapad yung mukha ko, kaya parang ano lang yun”, Oftana said with a smile.

With the win, Calvin barges into the next round of the only virtual Olympics with the twist, Smart E-lympics. Tenorio on the hand was eliminated but was promised by Matt Nieto to be the substitute player once a quarter-finalist became not available or backed out of the competition.

Catch Smart E-lympics every Wednesday and Saturday at seven in the evening on the Facebook page and Youtube channel of Smart Sports to watch the other side of your favorite athletes.
