The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) just concluded its all-Filipino bubble in Clark. The Philippine Golf Tour (PGT) is just coming off two bubble tournaments in Cavite. Meanwhile, Clark is set to host a window of the 2021 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia Cup qualifiers on February 2021 while the Philippine SuperLiga (PSL) is also targeting a February 2021 opening. It seems that sports in the country are slowly picking up the pace despite the still ongoing 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
But for Games and Amusement Board (GAB) Chairman Abraham Mitra, caution should remain in play for Philippine sports.
Mitra spoke in last week's Philippines Sportswriters Association (PSA) online forum where he reminded everyone of the importance of practicing caution.
"We must not relax. We must continue to stay safe, and we at GAB will make sure to remind them (professional leagues)"
Mitra said that GAB is continuously coordinating with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Department of Health (DOH) to ensure the continuous safety of athletes. He shared his vision that 2021 will be the start of sports jumping back into life in the new normal as he said, "We're looking at 2021 as a banner (year),"
