There were questions as to whether or not Kai Sotto will be able to play for Gilas Pilipinas in the third window of the 2021 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia Cup qualifiers as his National Basketball Association (NBA) G-League team, Team Ignite, is set to complete in the NBA G-League bubble season which starts next month. Recent developments cleared that picture.
As it turns out, the 18-year old basketball prodigy is set to return home and is set to enter the Calamba training bubble. He will be joined by at least, 15 players from the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) who already expressed their willingness to join the Calamba bubble.
In a video posted on his Instagram, Kai Sotto said, "I'm very excited because I was given the opportunity to play for Gilas this February window. I'm thankful for those who are supporting me and are believing in my dream to play for the country,"
In a short chat with pinoyliga.com, Gilas Pilipinas Head Coach Jong Uichico expressed his excitement over this development.
"I am very excited to see how much he has improved,"
If Kai Sotto makes the final cut, it will be a big boost for Gilas Pilipinas who is set to play twice against Korea and another game against Indonesia for the third window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers.
