SAN JUAN -- Mapua had to get their first win of the FilOil FlyingV Preseason Cup the hard way Monday noon at the FilOil Flying V Centre, after grinding out a 73-69 win over hard-luck Adamson in the second game of Juniors' action.
Jonnel Policarpio and the Red Robins nearly blew their 12 point lead at the end of the third quarter, but the defending NCAA champions held their nerve to finally get on the win column after three tries, while sending their UAAP counterparts at the brink.
Policarpio posted a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds, for Mapua, with Ivan Lazarte following him with 16 markers.
Marcus Nitura had 17 for the Baby Falcons, who fell short in the final frame to fall at 0-3 in Group A.
