Gyms will be allowed to resume operations today, September 1, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said.

They are allowed to reopen in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez added.

The reopening of fitness establishments was postponed last August when Metro Manila and other areas in the country were placed back to modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), following the medical professionals’ call for stricter quarantine measures.

Areas that are under GCQ from Sept. 1 to 30 are as follows:

•    Metro Manila

•    Bulacan

•    Batangas

•    Bacolod City

•    Tacloban City

All places that were not mentioned are under MGCQ.

To date, the Philippines has recorded more than 220,000 COVID-19 cases, with 3,558 deaths and 157,562 recoveries.

Personal grooming and review centers are also allowed in GCQ areas.
