We're seven months into the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic and while most of the professional leagues are already gearing for their respective resumptions, athletes here and abroad are still facing difficulties but as Tyang Aby Marano said, "Because you want to have something done, you will find ways"
Saturday's episode nine of Usapang PSL marked the return of host, Aby Marano at the helm of the podcast that is dedicated to anything and everything that is about the Philippine SuperLiga (PSL). What made this episode extra amazing is that featured the team Marano is playing for: the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers who are now five-time champions in the PSL. Joining Marano in yet another laughter-filled night of discussion were F2 teammates in Kim Fajardo, Michelle Morente, Tin Tiamzon, plus Aduke Ogunsanya of the De La Salle Lady Spikers in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).
While every episode of Usapang PSL that Marano hosted turned out fun-filled, Saturday's discussion also tackled a serious topic that involved a serious problem that athletes are facing given the situation we are all facing. The question: What are the adjustments that you need to make for home workouts to work?
Given that the government has imposed health and safety protocols due to the pandemic, athletes such as Marano and company are left to make do of what they have at home to make sure that they physically fit, and for Morente, it boils down to "looking for motivation to push yourself (to train at home)" Ogunsanya chimed that since everything is now being done online, "You have to do it on your own. You will just have to listen to what they (coaches) will say. It's a bit difficult but we're trying to adjust" Tiamzon also talked about how she misses actual training on the court in saying "I am very inspired by you (Marano and company) and mostly, what you do on the court is where I pick up the lessons I can learn as a player"
Fajardo also admitted difficulty in training in saying, "Everything is now online and it's difficult to adjust because you're living alone. But what makes it more difficult for me is the limited space because I live in a condo and there are many restrictions (as to what you can do inside the condo). Of course, that's where your being resourcefulness will enter in trying to be able to complete the task"
