The 2020 Olympics in Japan was already postponed and was rescheduled to July 2021 due to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic that forced other sporting events to be canceled altogether. And while the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has said that they have no "Plan B" and that, the Summer Games will still push thru, the surge of COVID-19 cases in Japan continues as the country now has 345, 221 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

And the current surge has already pushed the Japanese government to cancel the Games anew.

Reports are now saying that Japan is now looking to cancel the 2021 Games and is now focusing on the 2032 Olympics- the next available year Japan could host the Games. While there is no official announcement yet,  one source told Richard Lloyd Perry, “Personally, I don’t think it’s going to happen.”

Earlier, IOC President Thomas Bach said this: “We have, at this moment, no reason whatsoever to believe that the Olympic Games in Tokyo will not open on 23 July in the Olympic stadium in Tokyo," Bach later added, “This is why there is no Plan B and this is why we are fully committed to make these Games safe and successful,"
