Korf in Dutch means basket. It is similar to Netball. Professor Sambuang’s goal is to make Korfball a demonstration sport at the forthcoming Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi. A demonstration sport at the SEAG needs five competing teams so hopefully, four more countries join to see if there’s any long term potential for the country to medal in the game.
Korfball is perfect at the grassroots level to keep our children fit and active as Korfball can be played as mixed with boys and girls. The game can be incorporated into the DepEd Physical Education curriculum and be used to fight rising cases of child obesity in the country.
The all women Palawan Queen’s Gambit chess team is looking to break a glass ceiling in professional chess both here and abroad. These ladies know the challenges that lie ahead. Coach Susan has her players ready to outwit, outthink, and out-move the competition, including the men, to be successful. We wish them the best of luck.
Cherry Regalado, 2019 SEAG women’s Pencak Silat bronze medalist keeps training both mentally and physically, waiting for that call to once again compete for the country.
