  • PHILIPPINE SPORTS

As I was looking and listening to the session conducted by Dr. TJ Rosandich, the recurring theme in his discussion is that the United States has an abundance of resources. Dr. Rosandich is the Head of the United States Sports Academy. Rosandich delved on “Sports, from a first world perspective”. Dr. TJ shared with us the rise and continuing dominance of his country in world sports especially the Olympics.

The United States has the budget at every level, from grassroots to youth sports to elite sports to the Paralympics to the differently abled. If you have the budget, you can get your athletes everything state of the art and top of the line, from facilities, equipment, vitamins, supplements and even analytics.

Money has been the perennial problem for Philippine sports. Where to get more and how to generate more. National Sports Associations have had to be creative and innovative in generating funds.

NSA’s must make it worthwhile for private sponsors to come in through performance of its athletes and a transparent and forthcoming report of how the funds were spent to renew the partnership or sponsorship.

Dr. Rosandich presented a lot of numbers, statistics and figures and all the spending was reciprocated by continental titles, world championships and Olympic gold medals.

As a third world country, we can achieve first world success is the sporting arena but a it’ll take a lot of hardwork, sacrifice and a great presentation to potential private sponsors because as far as budget is concerned, government can only provide so much.
