The Dallas Mavericks are just two wins away from advancing to the Western Conference Semifinals after they upset the L.A. Clippers in Game 2, 127-121. The Mavericks were able to win the first two games at the Staples Center led by Luka Doncic and Tim Hardaway Jr., who tallied a combined 67 points and 11 three-pointers in Game 2.
The Clippers have lost 5 straight playoff games.
The Mavericks are the 32nd team in NBA history to win the first 2 games of a best-of-7 series on the road. 27 of the previous 31 went on to win the series.
“The mentality was to play aggressive, have fun, that’s it. That is how your mentality is.” Doncic on their mindset coming into Game 2.
“Obviously, Kawhi (Leonard) is an amazing defender. They have some good defenders like (Paul George) and Kawhi. They are two of the best perimeter defenders. But, you just have to be aggressive and that’s it.” Doncic’s response to the individual matchup that he wasn’t excited to attack in this series.
Doncic, 22, averaged 32 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists and shot 50% from the field in his first 8 playoff games. He had three triple doubles in that span. Luka is the first player in NBA history to record 250+ points, 70+ boards and 70+ dimes through a player’s first 8 career postseason games.
Mavericks’ legend Dirk Nowitzki watched his former team at the Staples Center and congratulated Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks on their win.
