Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Chairman Emeritus Manny V. Pangilinan expressed sympathy to Lebanese FIBA executive Hagop Khajirian and the Lebanese people through a letter following the two explosions in Beirut on August 4.
Hagop is the FIBA executive director for Asia and CEO of the FIBA Asia Secretariat.
“It was with great sadness when I learned about the most regretful explosion in the Port of Beirut,” Pangilinan wrote, who is now on his second term as FIBA Central Board member.
“I join the people of your city, and the people of Lebanon, in their hour of grief and suffering, and send to them our prayers and our thoughts,” he added.
The PLDT and Smart chairman and longtime Philippine sports patron also hoped “that Beirut can recover quickly and fully from this unfortunate disaster,” while expressed “deepest sentiments and all good wishes.”
The FIBA Asia headquarters and several national sports offices were among the structures damaged by the Beirut explosions which reportedly caused damage costing more than 10 million dollars.
