On Monday (Manila time), National Basketball Association (NBA) Spokesperson Mike Buss said, "We anticipated that there would be game postponements this season and planned this season accordingly. There are no plans to pause the season. We will continue to be guided by our medical experts and our health and safety protocols.” This came after two games have already been postponed due to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) protocols.
On Tuesday, two games have been added to the list of postponed games with the Dallas Mavericks reporting that they have four players who tested positive for COVID-19. With more teams having to play with a thinner roster due to the protocols, the call for the NBA to halt the season has become louder. And while the NBA has indicated that it plans to keep the season rolling despite the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the United States, the league, in a report, is now considering a halt of games that could last for two weeks.
NBA top brass and general managers of teams are set to hold a virtual meeting to make the necessary amendments to the current health and safety protocols. While the league is trying to avoid halting games for a long period of time, it's still on the table.
It can still happen.
