It is a fitting start to open of the online series Women In Charge, as the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas named Gilas Pilipinas Women center Jack Danielle Animam as its inaugural Women’s Basketball Ambassador.
Ahead of its scheduled pilot on Friday evening, the federation was proud that she once again proved as a champion, after being a vital cog in Shih Hsin’s unbeaten romp to Taiwan’s University Basketball Association title last year.
“Animam surely inspired many young Filipina basketball players not just to devote themselves to the sport but also to set lofty goals for themselves,” said SBP president Al Panlilio in a statement.
The 6’5” giant will be Bea Daez’s first guest in the upcoming show, which will be beamed at the SBP’s Facebook page.
“Having an official designation with the SBP will give Animam a bigger platform to continue to be an example of what a Filipina basketball player could be.”
Panlilio later stated that the former UAAP MVP for National U is a blessing to the game in the country and the SBP was happy to have her front-and-center for the SBP’s “Women in Basketball” program.
He told, “What really sets Jack apart was that she was available when the country needed her services on the international stage may it be for 3x3 or five-on-five.”
Animam is no stranger in playing for the country, since her debut in the 2015 FIBA Asia Women’s Championship in Wuhan, and was part of the historic Gilas Women squad that won double gold medals in the 2019 SEA Games homestand.
Those credentials are more than enough for the SBP to choose the former Queen Bulldog as its envoy for women’s basketball.
“We know how passionate she is about elevating Filipina basketball players by giving them a bigger stage and that’s why she’s perfect for the role.”
