The University of the East showed no mercy as it downed Ateneo 87-56 to open its bid in the Pinoyliga Next Man cUP recently at the Activate Hoop Arena in Mandaluyong City last January 21.
The Red Warriors’ reserve squad converted 53 percent of their shots from the field (34-of-64), including 8-of-17 from beyond the arc to move up back to .500 after its first four games.
Shooting guard Vlair Christopher Lingolingo and forward John Manalang led UE with 16 and 15 points, respectively as they combined for 60 percent field goal shooting. Pio Cruz and Dei Tomas added 12 and 10 points, respectively for UE.
The Red Warriors led in every statistical category, collaring 42 rebounds to the Blue Eagles’ 30 and they also had 15 steals to their opponent’s four.
Ateneo was without Geo Chiu and Jason Credo. Miggy Salvador led the team in scoring with 14 points.
