No Talks For Now: NBA Not Postponing Games Amid Protests

The National Basketball Association (NBA) rarely postponed games but in 2020, game postponements rocked the league.

In March 2020 as the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic was starting to wreak havoc across the globe, the NBA, for the next five months, suspended the remainder of the 2019-2020 season which resumed in a bubble in late July.

Although this wasn't instigated by the NBA, the 2020 playoffs also hit the pause button after the Milwaukee Bucks led a boycott as a sign of protest after an unarmed Black American was shot by police in Kenosha last August.

The NBA also postponed a Los Angeles Lakers game following the death of Kobe Bryant.

Now that Washington DC is being rocked by protests staged by supporters of US President Donald Trump, no talks of postponement of games have been staged by the NBA along with the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA).  11 games are set on Wednesday (Thursday Manila time) including one between the Washington Wizards against the Philadelphia 76ers in Philadephia. While it has been reported that players of the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics held a "players only" meeting prior to their game, both teams agreed to play. Meanwhile, the Bucks and the Detroit Pistons knelt after tipoff.

While there are no talks yet about putting the games on hold, if the political scene in the United States doesn't stabilize in the next few days, the NBA would be forced to make a decision for the safety of not just the players but of everyone involved.
