On the virtual sidelines of the 2nd Professional Sports Summit organized by the Games and Amusements Board led by Chairman Baham Mitra, we, along with other sports writers and columnists were able to get some interview time with PFL Commis
This writer asked what it meant for the PFL and the league’s quality of play, to have two of its young up and coming stars, Jarvey Gayoso and Mar Diano of the Azkals Development Team to be successfully recruited by the cream of the crop of Thai football clubs.
Commissioner Torre explains that the exodus of the two young homegrown stars is a shot in the arm for Philippine Football. If exporting local homegrown talent is what it takes to grow, develop and promote Philippine Football then so be it.
We also asked the Commissioner what his initial thoughts and reaction was upon being informed that several players were infected with Covid-19. There was anxiety shared by Torre but they had to act quickly and responsibly because the season opener was on the horizon.
We sincerely hope Gayoso and Diano not only do well in Thailand, but also excel and in their own way, market and promote Philippine Football to the Thai community.
We also hope that, more importantly, that their mother ball club allows them to compete for flag and country if and when the time comes.
Hopefully, the PFL produces more talent, like for example, replacing Jarvey and Mar on the development team to develop more players. I’d like our players to be known all over the world as fundamentally sound, plays with not much flash and fancy but gets it done.
