Pinoyliga.com is now the official social media partner of the National Golf Association of the Philippine (NGAP), the governing body of the golfing sport in the Philippines.
The NGAP educates and develops rules governing the sport, and represents golf clubs in the country in local and international affairs. The association first convened in 1961 under its former name Republic of the Philippines Golf Association.
Today, the NGAP also performs a number of other functions.
It is producing a handicap index called the National Handicapping Identification System for each member of a gold club or association. The index ranks players of different abilities so they may be able to compete head-to-head equally, according to the NGAP website.
The NGAP has certified professionals who rate golf courses, and conducts seminars on the following topics: Rules of golf; caddie functions; and tournament organizations.
Other services of the NGAP include:
• Training and accrediting rulesmen.
• Overseeing the management and supervision of NGAP-sanctioned tournaments.
• Providing general golf information through distributing Rules of Golf booklets.
• Supporting the training of the National Training Pool, with the help of the Philippine Sports Commission.
• Developing Philippine Golf through organization and conduct of local tournaments.
• Promoting golf and tourism through the participation in international tournaments and conventions.
Recently, the NGAP has conducted projects which include the Grassroots and Junior Development Program. “The NGAP aims to be a stronger force in producing a new generation of champions,” said NGAP president Martin Lorenzo in a video release.
Under the program, children from around the country are given training in the sport.
The association also takes pride in their Women’s National Team and Training Pool, which includes award-winning golfers Yuka Saso, Bianca Pagdanganan, and Lois Kaye Go.
The NGAP is currently aiming to add more women to the golf industry. “NGAP is honored to join the global golf community in shaping a new era of inclusivity in the sport,” it wrote in the release.
More women are now managing the operation of golf clubs and supervising the maintenance of golf courses, its release added.
The NGAP is sponsored by the Manny V. Pangilinan Sports Foundation (MVPSF).
