Dwight Ramos is one of the most-hyped collegiate players in the Philippines, even though he hasn't even played a single game for the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). And yet, he is now one of the faces of Gilas Pilipinas that is competing in two qualifying tournaments.
In the words of Aaron Atayde, "It hasn't happened all the time when you are considered as one of the top basketball players in the country right now, and you have yet to actually play a collegiate game for the team that brought you in,"
Back in the second window of the 2021 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia Cup qualifiers in Bahrain, Gilas Pilipinas- then loaded with young guns, erupted to a 93-61 victory against Thailand, and in that game, Dwight Ramos led the Filipinos in scoring with 20 points on a perfect seven for seven field goal shooting. He also had seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
What should scare opponents is that we haven't seen the full potential of a Dwight Ramos on both the collegiate scene and in the international scene.
He's just beginning to scratch the surface.
That's what he said on Tuesday's episode of Hoops Life as a guest of Atayde and Jinno Rufino.
Answering Atayde's question on whether we have indeed what he can do on the basketball court, "I'm just hoping I'm just scratching the surface,"
Ramos added, "I'm hoping I continue to play well, keep trying to improve,"
"This is just the beginning," he concluded.
What we saw from "Saint Dwight" in his first three games with Gilas Pilipinas was indeed just the beginning. He's averaging 12 points, five rebounds, and two assists in the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers.
