In a joint partnership, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and FIBA hold a Tournament Coaches' Course this month, with an aim to share their knowledge especially to those involved with women's basketball.

Organized by no less than SBP Coaches' Academy led by multi-titled mentor Jong Uichico and FIBA Oceania Executive Director David Crocker, the workshop was held last June 12 and it was well-attended by luminaries from the world of Pinay Basketball.

"The Tournament Coaches Course is a workshop aimed to develop Philippines female coaches and coaches coaching female to upskill their capabilities as leaders in their respective communities," said Crocker, who also holds the same position in the FIBA offices in Singapore. "It also builds a network of coaches for them to be able to collaborate, learn, and help each other in developing their coaching styles."

Among those who attend are the coaches from member schools of the UAAP, including UST's Haydee Ong and NU's Patrick Aquino, with the pair having immense international experience when the led the Gilas Women program which was then named Perlas at the early part of the past decade.

For Crocker, the quality of the participating coaches gives the course a boost, as it shared the bond for those Filipino mentors that reinforced their confidence and self belief.

"The TCC is a great tool for information dissemination and to learn different coaching perspectives that they can incorporate in their coaching principles," he then said.

Crocker added that the topics in their course are tailor-made to the coaches, as they focused on developing a plan for tournament success.

"This course is dedicated to giving enough information on various aspects to plan for the competition and give them the preparation needed to attain their goals."
