The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has unveiled a new logo for the federation as well as for the Gilas Pilipinas team. The logo was formally showed to the public during a press conference before Game 4 of the PBA Philippine Cup finals.

SBP president Al Panlilio did the honors of unveiling the logo last May 8 along with PBA commissioner Willie Marcial during the press conference.

“We are doing a refresh as far as the SBP is concerned. We’d like to unveil new logos for both SBP and Gilas. The rationale behind this is for the SBP logo is to signify the strength and disciplined direction that we are trying to achieve in the federation.”
“There are a lot of things we are doing in the federation level aside from the 5-on-5. We are putting accountability and good leadership in those pillars so that we will measure it and we will be able to perform based on that measurements,” said Panlilio.

Panlilio also explained the logo change of Gilas Pilipinas.

“We’ve done a study with the help of Cignal. What’s coming out in our research is the Gilas name is the most powerful one. What we want to do is use the branding of Gilas in all the pillars,” he said.

With the development, Gilas Pilipinas will now be used in all the national basketball teams beginning with Gilas Pilipinas Men’s. The women’s basketball team formerly called Perlas Pilipinas will now be called Gilas Pilipinas Women’s, while the Batang Gilas will now be titled Gilas Pilipinas Youth. The 3x3 team will be named Gilas Pilipinas 3x3.

Jong Uichico was also tasked to lead the SBP Academy, which will be handling the coaching and technical matters of the federation. Sandy Arespacochaga is now the head coach of the Gilas Pilipinas Youth and Ronnie Magsanoc will be the man in charge for Gilas Pilipinas 3x3. Pat Aquino is the coach of the Gilas Pilipinas Women’s.
