Inspired by the recent celebration of International Women's Month, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) moves to further strengthen it's belief in empowering women in Basketball as it launches an online talk show series aptly titled, “Women In Charge”.
To revere their work on and off the court, former UP standout and Gilas Women's guard Bea Daez-Fabros hosts the series that will have its pilot episode on April 9 on SBP's Facebook page. Showtime is at 8pm.
“You will be inspired by their interesting stories and background on how they fell in love with the sport, on how they want to excel in the sport, and how they want to continuously raise the level of women’s basketball here in the Philippines”, Daez-Fabros said.
Women’s basketball reached its pinnacle in 2019. The Filipinas snagged a historic "golden double" by winning both the 3x3 and the 5-on-5 tournaments on its Southeast Asian Games home stand. This feat allowed the team and the program to earn the respect they so rightfully deserved.
The teams were bannered by the likes of Afril Bernardino, Jack Danielle Animam and Janine Pontejos, with multi-titled Coach Patrick Aquino being the captain that led them to battle.
The SBP hopes that through this program, it can inspire a new generation of women to get into basketball and to be part of its growth and development.
