It looked more like a sports conversation than a virtual press conference with PSC (Philipine Sports Commission) Chairman Butch Ramirez and GAB (Games and Amusements Board) Chairman Baham Mitra on a sports webcast last Thursday.

I wanted to ask Chairman Mitra if it has ever been explored or studied that the GAB also regulates the people who handle and manage the careers of professional athletes like managers, handlers, sports agents and boxing promoters.

Unfortunately, the amiable Chairman had a commitment that he needed to rush to but my guess is that they have and an assumption is that they’re studying the possible issuance of licenses to these people to make sure professional athletes are taken cared of, they’re not put in a compromising situation, they get what’s due them and that they never get the short end of the stick after training and competing hard.

Chairman Ramirez mentioned the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame in the discussion which brought me back to the time I did my thesis in college on a marketing plan for, at that time, the proposed Philippine Sports Hall of Fame 20 years ago.

I asked the good Chairman if they are allowed to give advice, suggestion and feedback on how NSA’s run their affairs if it is asked. If the performing NSA’s ask for recommendations and suggestions on how to supplement the budget they receive from the PSC to expand youth development programs and talent identification then according to Chairman Ramirez, they are allowed to. There’s nothing in the law that says they can’t.

Chairman Ramirez shared that the next batch of Hall of Fame inductees will be announced next year.
