Representing the future of basketball, New Orleans' phenom Zion Williamson grace the cover of NBA 2K21 for the next-generation consoles yesterday.
The sensational rookie out of Duke finally took flight with his Pelican wings with his brute power and speed ever since he was drafted first overall this season.
He was the second player to be revealed in the troika of cover players for the upcoming installment in the world's most popular basketball video game series, after Portland's Damian Lillard who represent the current generation.
Despite missing the first half of the regular season owing to a meniscus injury in the preseason, Williamson finally made his smashing debut at home to San Antonio last January 22, firing in 17 of his 22 points consecutively in a loss to the Spurs.
Overall, he played 19 games for the Pelicans this year, averaging 23.6 points and 6.8 rebounds before the coronavirus pandemic put a pause to the NBA season.
“Being on the cover of NBA 2K has been a dream since I was a kid and to be the first NBA 2K21 cover athlete for the next-generation of gaming is really special,” he said. “Since the day I joined Team 2K, I’ve wanted to make an impact on basketball culture both on and off the court, and being the cover athlete for NBA 2K21 on next-gen consoles lets me do that. I can’t wait to be part of this global phenomenon and hoop with all the ballers out there on NBA 2K21.”
With that kind of a game that made him a Rising Star and a contender for the Rookie of the Year, Williamson is a perfect fit for the new breed of consoles such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
“For the cover of the next-generation version of NBA 2K21, we wanted to find someone who could represent the next-generation of NBA superstar," stated Alfie Brody, VP of Marketing at NBA 2K. "Zion is one of the few young players who has met the hype and can be considered a standard bearer for the next generation. We’re thrilled that he is representing the 2K21.
