"Kim and Dawn go way back not just in the DSLU but also in high school in De La Salle Zobel" That's what Migs Bustos said, referring to how long Kim Dy and Dawn Macandili have known each other.
Dy and Macandili are not just former stalwarts in the women's volleyball program of the De La Salle Lady Spikers in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) but they have been winning championships since they were members of that De La Salle Zobel side that was also coached by Coach Ramil De Jesus. And until in their professional career in the Philippine SuperLiga (PSL), Dy and Macandili are still teammates and are still coached by Ramil De Jesus with the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers.
Off the Record with Migs Bustos returned with another episode on Friday and Migs Bustos took a step backward in basketball stories and allotted the episode for the volleyball journey of Kim Dy and Dawn Macandili. Among the topics that were discussed was the friendship that Dy and Macandili established that began in their high school days in La Salle Zobel.
"In La Salle, we had a lot of ups and downs" Kim burst into laughter as she was remembering. "Me and Dawn had a bond since high school so going to La Salle, it was an easier shift because Dawn was there. I know that I wasn't alone. La Salle was an intimidating team because there are many good players. I was happy that Dawn was with me when we entered the Lady Spikers because we would endure the hardship together. We were together from the first year to fifth year (college)" Kim took a stroll down memory lane. She also added "Dawn's really a good player. She made life easier for us"
Macandili chimed in, "It's really the ups and downs (during college days). We were there for each other in crying and laughing. In hardship and in comfort, we were together not just as teammates but as sisters"
While they didn't mention anything specific down moments that they had to endure, Kim Dy revealed, "When we were in our second year, our training was twice a day and we had super little time to study. We were already having difficulties in our courses and I was like 'I'm getting tired. I can't take it anymore. Let's just study'" She later continued, "At the end of the day, our love for volleyball prevailed. We just decided to stick with volleyball. Survive Coach Ramil's training. And staying was worth it"
