"If you don't believe it, you shouldn't be here," this is what Luka Doncic said to the doubters of the Dallas Mavericks who entering the playoffs have yet to win a game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Four games into their first-round series in the National Basketball Association (NBA) playoffs, the Mavericks have already won two games against Kawhi Leonard and company and that, Game Four just added another episode to what is looking like the beginning of the legend that is Luka Doncic.
Down by a solitary point with three seconds left in overtime and playing without Kristaps Porzingis who was ruled out of the game due to soreness in his right knee, Luka Doncic received the inbound pass, dribbled a few ticks away before taking a step-back and launching one from deep. Mike Breen went "BANG BANG!" as the shot went in at the buzzer, enabling Dallas to escape a 135-133 victory in Game Four to tie the series at two games apiece ahead of the all-important Game Five.
Doncic's buzzer-beater shot completed another legendary night for the 21-year old Slovenian star who by the end of it, became just the third player in playoff history to record a 40+ point, 15+ rebound, and 10+ assist triple-double in a playoff game as Luka finished with 43 points, 17 rebounds, and 13 assists. All of that in 46 minutes.
The Clippers actually led by as much as 21 points and were able to get 36 points from sixth-man Lou Williams and 32 points from Kawhi Leonard but the game belonged to Luka Doncic who was even a game-time decision as he sustained a sprained ankle in the team's Game Three loss. It also didn't help the Clippers that Paul George struggled anew as he finished with nine points on three for 14 field goal shooting in 45 minutes. Dallas outscored the Clippers 63-55 in the second half alone before scoring 14 points in the extra five-minute period with their final seven points coming from Doncic- all in the final minute.
Fortunately for the Mavs, Doncic played. Doncic scored. Doncic delivered. Again. And we are bound to see more of those Luka shots.
