The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) canceled the remainder of its second-semester events last April due to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic that sent the sporting world on a temporary hiatus. If things work out from here on, we might have the UAAP back by April 2021.
That is according to UAAP Executive Director Rebo Saguisag.
While Saguisag clarified that the idea of opening Season 83 in April next year isn't necessarily the official position of the league, he admitted, "We are looking at it (April 2021 start). If we can get approval to hold training, we can start training by mid-January after the Christmas break," Attorney Saguisag also added, "And the timing is right as the coaches said that they need two to three months to prepare. If all goes well, we may be looking at starting the season by April,"
While Saguisaqg noted that holding a full season may not be possible, he said that the league is looking at the possibility of holding selected sports inside bubbles, and among the events that could be played in a bubble environment is the men's basketball as well as the women's volleyball.
Again, if all goes well.
