The University of the Philippines showed its championship caliber to Enderun Colleges as the Fighting Maroons gave the Titans a 22-point beating in the first game of the Pinoyliga Cup Collegiate Division.
UP flashes its might from the get-go as they led by 10 points at the end of the first quarter. They also limited Enderun to just 7 points in the first 10 minutes of action.
UP also capitalized on its height advantage as they outrebounded their opponent, 45-25. The Fighting Maroons consistently doubled the rebounds of the Titans in the first 3 quarters, having at least 12 rebounds compared to the Titans' 6.
Enderun cut down the lead to just 3 points midway through the 3rd quarter but it was UP all the way after that as UP finished the quarter strong with a 14-4 blast disabling the Enderun Titans to catch up till the final buzzer.
UAAP Finals MVP Malick Diouf filled up the stat sheet recording 8 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists and 2 steals to help his team get the W. Three players from the Maroons scored in double digits as Reyland Torres scored 14 of his game-high 17 points in the 4th quarter, followed by Sean Torculas with 12, and Harold Alarcon with 10.
Enderun's Francis Giussani is the lone double-digit scorer from their squad with 11. Enderun’s ace guard Roby Castro recorded game-high 7 assists and hauled down 6 rebounds for the Titans.
