Veteran wingman Macmac Cardona has resigned from the San Juan Knights in the Chooks-to-Go Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Season, citing personal reasons.
This was disclosed by the Knights in a statement that it released on Wednesday, January 8.
The loss is a tough one for San Juan and its bid to repeat as champions in this league. The 38-year old former PBA star was one of the Knights’ top performers when it won the title in the 2019 Datu Cup.
"As we start the year 2020, the San Juan Knights - Go For Gold Team will now move forward without one of our veteran presence Macmac Cardona, who resigned from the team due to personal reasons," the team’s statement read.
“Macmac has been an integral part of the San Juan Knights – Go For Gold powered by Cherry Mobile and instrumental to our championship as one of the leaders of the team. We wish Macmac the best of luck as he pursues another chapter in his journey. He will always be part of the San Juan Knights history,” the statement continued.
The Knights are sitting on top of the league right now with a 21-3 win-loss record. Cardona’s numbers though, have dipped from last season as he is tallying 7.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game for San Juan.
