A sort of reunion for the three-peat Ateneo Blue Eagles took place in the third episode of SMART E-lympics as Isaac Go and Gian Mamuyac went toe-to-toe in the “plank challenge” with the hosts of the show, twins Mike and Matt Nieto.
In the battle of Ateneans, Isaac Go gains the upper hand when it comes to conditioning since he is currently in the Calambubble for the preparation of our National Team in the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers and Olympic Qualifying Tournament. On the other hand, Gian Mamuyac is barred from playing ball and just keeping himself busy with personal training and practice at home as the UAAP season is still up in the air.
Planking and dribbling has a different set of programs in practice. But in Smart E-lympics, the two exercises are combined into one great challenge that will show who is more defiant of the two oppositions.
30 seconds after the start of the game, both players are still in good condition and look to not back down on the challenge. The hosts even linked it to a true blooded Blue Eagle, saying “Walang gusto magpatalo talaga! Iba ang Atenista!” They later on cheered the famous Ateneo chant “One big fight!”
At the one minute mark, Isaac glances at his screen and looks already winded while Gian tends to be still focused on the task at hand.
Go finally wilted and downed to the floor at the 1:15 mark of the game and Mamuyac was declared winner of the match.
With the win, Gian now booked a ticket to the quarter-final round of the virtual Olympics with a twist.
More than one year without fans cheering for them in the court, both players' final messages go out for their supporters. Mamuyac expressed to see the fans back soon on the hard court and Go hoped for the nation’s continued support to the Gilas Pilipinas “para sa bayan”.
